    • No please, lets give him a fair go. He probably had a poor deprived childhood and badly needs to be let off. Now, lets find a judge, and spin that kind of shit, and see how quickly he can be back out on the streets….

      • Given he was found guilty in 1993 for rape. Then after serving his time re-offended a number of times in 2000.

Why did this guy ever get the chance to be free- look what has happened. Australia please be tough…

      • Hey let’s all try to be really intelligent, courageous and strong here by HOLDING TIGHT and not saying any derogatory opinions of the accused guy (Adrain Bayley) which could jeopardise the goddam whole legal sitch!! We only have to wait a few months (til february 18th) the day of the court case. Let’s try process the news and details of Jill Meagher’s fate amongst ourselves as quietly and as privately as possible over these few months, preferably amongst friends and family in-person, and c’mon let’s NOT say contentious stuff ONLINE. After February, we can say whatever we like online, After tFebruary we can all break out and have a huge freaking feast of words and opinions on this guy Adrain Bayley. LET’S NOT DAMAGE THE ONE AND ONLY CHANCE FOR TRUE JUSTICE FOR JILL MEAGHER. if we did jeopardise the trial thru online specualtion and prejudice then it would be awful – justice wont end up getting served, think about it – think about not just ourselves but about how much EXTRA PAIN that would be for Jill’s partner, for Jill’s family and Jill’s friends. In a nutshell – NO MORE DISPARAGING COMMENTS ABOUT ADRIAN BAYLEY EQUALS A CHANCE FOR JUSTICE FOR JILL MEAGHER.

        • There wont be jurors, because he is known to be guilty, he took police to where Jill was buried, he has past offenses that relate to this case ect ect…even if he did plead not guilty, the overwhelming evidence against him would cancel out the possibility of an invalid jury decision towards a full guilty verdict

I don’t mean that as an offence, that is the same as what I know – and I am sure we comprehend what we know well; but a good career driven defence lawyer may be able to get this guy off (also from TV!).
Let our legal system go unhindered so that justice for all concerned is done!

    • Victoria police are trying to protect Bayley. Just like they have previously. The law let him out onto our streets after previous sexual and violent acts. His lawyer and Judge have the murder of dear innocent Jill on their hands. The Police only protect the scumbags. The people need to uprise against this pathetic so called justice. Bring it on Police. Let Bayley go. The public will then decide his fate

      • I cannot believe that some people think, that police actually protect, violent and brutal offenders, that is simply not the case. The police are bound and tied by so many code of ethics, it would make you head spin, Disparaging the police and the job they do, when these men and women but their lives on the line, each and every day for the safety of the community, makes my blood boil, and yes, i have been on the receiving end of a violent and brutal crime, my son’s, armed robbery, assault and stabbing, so i do know how hard and frustrating it is for our police, in dealing with these violent offenders. If we are going to blame anyone, blame the judicial system, which works on rehabilitation not punishment, which means offenders are rehabilitated to re-offend instead of punished then rehabilitated, so chances of re-offending decrease. Police arrest offenders, make their cases, after that it’s out of their hands and into the judicial system, which more often than not release or give out minimal sentences, which do not in any way shape or form fit the crime committed. That’s what needs to change.

He may have got away from previous offences, but the current offence is far more severe, and, rather than living in the past, blaming the law, let us allow the law to let justice occur.

    • Its pretty simple…. our law process relies on presumption of innocence for its process to trial. If you dont stop making all these sort of statements until after the matter is resolved, then he may get off on the technicality that he can’t get a fair trial because all possible jurors in this city will have been influenced by details published in public (like this site) and are therefore unable to make a decision based only on facts detailed during the trial. He may then GET OFF.

In such cases like murder, child rapests you dont apply for the 3 strike rule, your in prison for good. It would defiently clean up all the petty theft and violence before it encourages these criminals to become more dangerous. To be honest, Im sick of hearing these dangerous criminals cry insanity when being prosicuted for there crimes. Have a look around, there are many many people who have been abused and neglected growing up, I had a very violent upbringing but i would never harm a living thing. Disgusting!!!

It seems obvious that the accused is involved with her death, but none of the details of the case have been made public. Aside from the fact that many of you sound like killers in the making, we have a sound, effective legal system in this country that protects the rights of all people and justice will hopefully be done (irrespective of the legally harmful comments many of you have made) The rights of the accused are applied as the case has not yet been proven, Im sure all of you would be screaming if you those rights were not given to you. Once the charges are proven, then the person can be called a murderer. It easy to hate but im sure other than gossip, im sure the police have not released the past criminal history of the accused as that would mean that no judge could hear the case. So ease up on the nonsense and the guy who made the labor comment, I deal with crims every day, they sound a lot like you. They are arent very smart

In the US this piece of worthless shit would be looking at death row and a nice big needle in the arm, under the Australian/Victorian “justice” system the best we can hope for is life in prison (at the taxpayers expense). Lets just hope that some other crim wants to make a name for themselves by taking care of this pig like Matty Johnston took care of Carl….theyd be pretty popular with the people of Melbourne! Of course this dog is to be presumed “innocent” until he is proven guilty…thats the system… RIP Jill Meagher, in gods care.

    • Referencing “taxpayer’s expense” here to try and make a point in favour of the death penalty as in the US suggests a lack of knowledge of the facts. Studies in the US *CONSISTENTLY* show that death row prisoners cost significantly more than prisoners sentenced to life without parole. In some cases us to USD2 million more per prisoner. So on a cost basis life in prison without parole is a better use of taxpayer’s money…

The US also seems to be moving away from the death penalty, 5 states in the last 5 years have abolished it. Many studies over the years have shown the death penalty is not an incremental deterrent compared to life imprisonment so in itself it doesn’t put a stop to serious crime. The appeals process has been shown to cause considerable distress to the families of victims as the case facts are dragged up time and again for each appeal, making them in effect re-live the crime several times. The number of exonerated people executed in the US continues to grow year on year which only goes to show the danger of such a final punishment, judges and jurors have to live with themselves knowing they signed the death warrant for innocent people in these cases.

It’s all too easy to make an emotional judgement at times like these to suggest the death penalty would in some way improve things but the facts simply aren’t there to suggest the death penalty is the way forward.

Reform is needed, no doubt, but it needs to be calm, considered reform rather than a knee jerk reaction to this terrible tragedy.

In 2005 my very best friend of over 40 years was raped and strangled and left in an empty house in a bath.. Her killer admitted to doing it, said he didn’t mean to do it cause she was a nice lady.. He took to an empty house, duck tape, rope and garbage bags. She was an Estate Agent who went to work and never came home because of this sick man. The judge ruled that the Prosecution had not proven beyond reasonable doubt that he meant to do it so it was not in his opinion pre meditated. He parked his car over a klm away from the house, walked carrying the above items to the house. After he had finished he drove her car back to where he parked his and drove off in his car. But it wasn’t pre meditated. He was sentenced to 20 years and will be able to apply for parole after only 15 years. Go figure.
I really feel for this young woman’s husband, family and friends as I know what they have yet to deal with. It has been 7 years since Lorelle was murdered and the ramifications of that are still being felt every day by her children and loved ones. By Noel McNamara on May 4th, 2006
A Victorian teenageer who killed a man in a hit-run accident while driving with a fraudently obtained licence has avoided further prison time.
Michael Lelie Hore 19, recieved a nine month, one week intensive corrections order for failing to stop after an accident, which killed Andrew Wayne Knowles, also aged 19.
He was freed after about five months in custody “Remand Centre thats not jail” the time being taken off his sentence. Mr. Knowles was walking home from the pub when he was struck by a car driven by Hore, 20 metres from his house in the central Victorian town of Linton on April 17, 2005. In sentencing, Judge Tony Duckett said Hore had not contributed to the death of Mr. Knowles, who had a blood alcohol content of 0.17 and was walking in the middle of the road when he was struck. But he said his actions after the accident called for substanial punishment.

I’ve got to tell you I dont believe it, that you Duckett could have the gall to say he deserved to be punished, and then goes ahead by handind down a sentence with a nine month, and Oh of course one week intensive corrections order. Now we will never no how much alcohol Hore had in his system because he ran like a mongrel dog, and left Mr. Knowles to die. Duckett said he Mr Knowles was in the middle of the road of course he was you bloody idiot how do you think you get to the other side, “by putting a feather up your arse and flying”
Duckett is well known to us here at the Crime Victims Support Association, in the reoffending judges list, You see this is the one that was on the bench when convicted rapist David Leslie Sims
was to be sentenced on two counts of rape and one of burgalry, what does Duckett do, gives out another clayton sentence of three years fully suspended, but not happy with reraping the victim in the court this clown wishes Sims well and send him on his way. Your and outrageous disgrace to the wig you wear to distribute justice that you don’t and should resign.

        • If the 16 rapes were of ordinary young women, rather than prostitutes, would the sentence have been more severe? I think it would. Why only 8 years? It’s pathetic. It’s obviously because they were prostitutes, It was seen, quite wrongly, as a lesser crime. You have to wonder what world these judges inhabit. They bring their prejudiced views on the morality of women to the Court, instead of basing the sentence on the severity of the crimes committed. Let’s hope he heard of the march for Jill and hung his head in shame, but I doubt it. I hope these women speak up at some point and kick up a fuss about the lack of justice in their cases. 8 years for 16 counts of rape equates to 6 months for each rape. The public needs to know, justice was not done.

They all would be living their normal lives right now. This is why these people need to stay behind bars. They are a hazard to society. My initial gut reaction was that I wanted to see this guy’s head on a pike and put on display somewhere it might induce other similarly inclined individuals to think twice before they snuffed out beautiful innocent life with so little regard. Trouble is that had he faced the death penalty this guy would have made a much greater effort to cover his tracks and would not have co-operated with police in finding poor Jill’s body. The death penalty should be reinstated and kept on the books tho’ for certain sorts of crimes, like mass murder, where there is absolutely no doubt about the identity of the killer. After all if you’ve done something like that, and have been interviewed by all the shrinks, who gives a monkey’s about whether you had a deprived childhood or not.

I read at the end of my letter so came back to comment , the prattle of the piggy eyed ‘look at me I’m tattooed and so tough’ wanker who’s photo “adorns” the site…the “Allan Jones” of “criminal retribution”….” If you are here you deserve to be”…..Yaaaaaawnnn!!…..Oh please, spare us your macho and narcissistic neanderthal nonsense…how far are YOU from being mentally what Adrian Bailey is accused of being in this ‘blog”…not too far I suspect…a tosser threatening all and sundry by inference, P;ease …get on your Harley bang bang or motorised scooter and shove off….You are a blight on humanity

Anger and despair at these atrocities is a normal reaction however the responses are so often indicators of psychotics, people so close to the accused here or in other cases yet who try to salvage themselves and justify their equally criminal minds by spitting venom at the accused.

One might ask how many of you have said “the only good Arab is a dead one” or supported the ghastly , depraved atrocities of zionist Israel against Palestine the Lebanon, Syria and or the murders of millions of innocent people post WW11 not only by Israel but by order of the American presidency.

How many of you have read of MK Ultra or other dreadful crimes against humanity by “the West” including the present and past Australian Governments. You get all foamy at the mouth over the appalling treatment of this one, appallingly treated woman who’s friends did not INSIST on escorting her home, god help us all. You might also think of the relatives of this man Bailey and his own hell, so you show some intelligence instead of spreading lowbrow invective.

The crime, was appalling yet this man was addicted to prostitutes and here was a beautiful young woman attractively dressed and alone late at night. She was at high risk in a society which has welcomed and excused sexual depravity in escalation over the last 30 years.

Only on the last weekend in a children’s TV show a woman offers to a man her black skirt bras and panties to a man, presumed sexual partner, before it flashed back to children.

These are not “accidents” these are deliberate efforts to introduce high level sex to child viewers. I recall shocking violence and rape in American movies on TV. I recall many years ago the Pornographic Cinderella being advertised in early children’s viewing time. “oh, we made a mistake”was the blase (sorry about the missing ‘acute accent’) response. The use of sexual depravity is not “to help us all grow” but is a part of the methodology of dragging mankind into an amorphous mass of decadence…for cash. It’s just another candy-man caper.

In the depraved “laissez- faire ” world we have had inflicted upon us by the new order and the ugly people and ugly entertainment of the last two generations so many of you cry crocodile tears when atrocities happen..but…isn’t that what the freedom you want is all about ?..for people to make choices, to have absolute freedom…or are the limitations only when their provocation ends up in a crime..

Is there nothing in your sick, immature minds that tells you that not all of us can resist temptations…that if you look into your own lives similar sickness exists?…teetering on the edge when you spray venom on people you have pre-judged?

You talk and text as though you have intellects on mind-guided places like Q and A, when your mouths only prove stupidity. You increasingly protest against religion and highlight crimes completely out of balance with the panorama yet you cannot seem to grasp that unless morality sears into one’s mind as a guide that all the rationalising and high talk doesn’t change the fact humans are weak and that we have to provide guidelines which may offend some of us. ..but guidelines for good.

You don’t grasp that lust causes transgressions of logic which put others at risk, that whether you like it or don’t approve or not a girl attractively dressed and alone puts herself at risk…you can moralise and reclaim the night and all the rest of it but the fact is there. In this beautiful woman’s case, a woman who stood-out, that men would notice, it was wrong place wrong time and out with friends who didn’t care enough to see see her home whether she liked it or not.

Jill Meagher was not just a victim of the accused or some other man, she was a victim of society’s decadence, incompetence and fantasy about itself..

Why she went alone why she stopped and walked back to talk to him why her phone call and what her phone call was about we may never know. It brought her to her last moments alive and from that we should learn to deal with the scenarios we have allowed to develop in our insisting that sexual licentiousness and sexual violence are not inanimate when shown night after night on the deplorable, often depraved American TV programmes, sourced from places who’s intention is to drag people lower and lower whilst pretending to elevate them

What person deliberately and wittingly chooses 20 years in jail for a few minutes of sexual acts ?. The person murders to blot out the crime yet the law offers no active incentive for the deviant to actively discipline him or herself not to kill, whatever the preceding crime.

It’s long overdue that negotiations begin with the criminal or deviant mind to cause it to set its own “no go” points which compromise in at least leaving a victim alive. Unfortunately such is the level of pathos in our so called “leaders” that they “do not negotiate with…(you fill in the space)” and the mindless with the 3 second concentration spans think “yep, that’s it, don’t backdown”…result?….atrocity after atrocity after atrocity….We become have victims to a dissolute political management system, rotten to the core and supporting “gay marriage” as its peak programme to cure Australia’s ills..

Jesus gave the answer in a couple of sentences but he’s not a mumbling junky dressed like a jerk belting at a guitar, he wasn’t spending the equivalent of $12000/night for a room on tour pushing people over to cure them “In the name of JeSUS” He wasn’t the kind of “gay” fraud this lost world adulates today.

Unlike almost all in the social columns held up as social icons he was a simple person we gather not shopping at kitch. He’s got no relationship in reality to money grubbing, tithe indoctrinating “Jesus” programmes televised weekly from the upper north shore “Church of CD sales” and others polluting early morning TV with their version of divinity. .All Jesus had were the answers.

Put them into practice..let’s get back to sanity and communicate empathetically and sensitively but with maturity with those who, sometimes perhaps rightly, do us harm.

Let’s not rest on another social crime “graffiti” to learn and change our ways through Jill’s invasion and death. Start by cleaning that right off and actually making some mature effort to make sense of her seemingly senseless death at the hands of whoever did it, a tragically sick person. We cry with her parents…but what about his….? St Anthony please help and comfort them all and attack the sickness within the person who did the atrocity to her. Pray for her.Pray for him.

      – let’s feel sorry for Adrian Ernest Bayley, as he is a victim, and not of his own deprived childhood or anything but of All Western Culture.
-and of course, you make sure to refer to how Jill was dressed and that she was attractive.
So basically you’re saying everyone is to blame but the reoffending rapist and murderer himself. How is it by your sick twisted logic that everyone else manages to not also rape and kill every day, surrounded by all this filthy tv and perverted mentality and hot scantily dressed women? Reflect on that please.
And of course the sexual assault rate, rape and murder rate are all higher in countries where the more sexist and sexually repressed they are so don’t blame the victim and don’t blame our culture.
Protect the victims, reflect the values of our public, reform the justice system and stop releasing criminals and feeling sorry for them.

If there were harsher sentences like death penalty, people would think twice. Too many laws protect those people nowadays. This happened near my place where I used to live in Brunswick. It could have been my sister instead of Jill. Think twice and think that it could happen to someone in your family.

  21. He is an animal – a convicted serial rapist and the police want us to hold our tongues in case he is innocent? It’s bullshit. How about focusing on the legal system and not allowing scum like this man walk the streets? First he was convicted in the early 90s and was sentenced to five years. He faked his way through a sex offender’s group for early release and was caught again and sentenced to eleven years in 2002. Who knows how many others in between that time frame he was satisfying his urges with? Who knows if he killed any other woman and buried the evidence? It is no surprise for the legal system to go. “Yep, he was sentenced for some heavy &^)( and he’s out again, so we’ll just leave him to it.” Why wasn’t there at least some kind of program to make sure he was not doing this anymore? Why did the police not keep a close eye on him? Why is it that there were sketches of a rapist around the very area he was living in that resembled him so much and the police didn’t even look up sex offenders who lived in that area? Why? I don’t understand how this man was allowed to walk and do as he pleased after such heinous acts. There was no way of reformation for him to be allowed to socialize with society. He should have been kept on a short leash given how many women he raped. The legal system allowed this man to go out and re offend. They’re not keeping these scumbags off the street. They’re just holding them in cells – leaving them to continue the obsession in their head and leaving them to crave it again – and letting them walk free, like rabid dogs who are hungry to satisfy their own cravings. It’s *&^*()). The system needs to change. People like him need to be locked away FOR LIFE so that they don’t go the extra mile and murder. They are a hazard to society. We should not have to wait for them to kill an innocent life – we need to be preventing that &^%&(.

We’re allowing these people to walk the streets. Really, we are.

It is a known fact that paedophiles & serial rapists will never be rehabilitated, they should be locked up for life but unfortunately, for women & children, they are not. In my view, the march should have been to reform the legal system that allows this to happen. An eye for an eye, I say.

I agree completely with others on this site. If you want to let him off and release him, he might just get a taste of some real justice from those of us who do not want such a vile, sub human, speciman living amongst us.

It was the justice system that taught this person to be violent by putting him in jail. They then released him onto the public time and time again where he raped numerous time and murdered an inocent girl. The justice system has already failed in it’s duty of care and should be held accountable. As should any moronic judge that buys the bullshit argument that people are so stupid that if they read something about someone online their opinion can never be swayed again. Absolute BULLSHIT!!

He wont get off anyways as he’s a convicted serial rapist with over 16 rapes to his name. It’s also highly probable that he’s a serial killer. Regardless of what the courts give him, that is nothing to what he has coming inside or out!

    • Sounds more like autopsy marks. As some-one already said she was allegedly strangled. I also read somewhere that the accused was at a different bar that night with his girlfriend but left after they had an argument. This may have been the trigger for the evil that followed. I don’t think the victim was stalked, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. If it hadn’t been her, it would probably have been some other poor woman. The tragedy is compounded by the fact that it was preventable, if only his inability to be rehabilitated was recognised and acted on by the judicial system. He should have kept out of society indefinitely and so never been in a position to kill.

        • IMO we cannot ‘safely’ assume the reasons behind his alleged suicide attempt – without speaking with him about what his reasons were – not what we ‘assume’ they were – which is, of course, our interpretation without ever understanding his reasons. It is possible that he knows what is coming to him in jail and wishes to escape these consequences. Also possible that he is feeling only for himself and wanting to avoid a lifetime of incarceration. Another possibility is that the wounds are ‘alleged’ to be self inflicted, but were they?

  34. First, it’s essential that no one here gives any succour whatsoever to the legal team of the accused (note that intentionally I do not name him), by their indignant comments online about the accused.

Second, what many folks fail to understand is how difficult it can be to prosecute successfully a charge for murder in common law jurisdictions like the State of Victoria. Just because someone admits to having killed someone, it doesn’t follow that a murder charge will stick when the case comes to trial. Blame the offender’s legal team; blame the police; blame the prosecutor; blame the witnesses; blame the judge; blame the juries; blame the appeals process; blame the legislators; blame the electorate. All play their part in this never ending travesty. The fact is that in all the States and Territories of Australia, time and time again those against whom the police believe they have a watertight case are acquitted of murder, manslaughter, rape, wounding, assault or fraud by juries made up of housewives, students and the unemployed, whom one can only presume are too stupid, too inattentive or too indifferent to convict despite the evidence, or are sceptically unconvinced by the evidence presented by the prosecution. Take your pick.

Third, to prove the crime of murder in the State of Victoria, the burden of proof is on the prosecution to persuade the jury beyond reasonable doubt (where the accused elects for a jury trial) that the person in the dock had the intention of killing their victim, or was so reckless in their conduct that the death of their victim was inevitable or extremely likely. If the prosecution fails to make their case for murder, then the jury will not convict for murder – and the offender may be convicted by the jury only of the lesser charge of manslaughter. A manslaughter conviction usually receives a lighter sentence than a conviction for murder. And that’s the main reason why in Australia killers are set free much sooner than most of us think they should be – when it comes to trial, they are only ever convicted by juries of manslaughter, not murder.
