Macchour Chaouk’s family say they will not hold a wake until the “other right people are buried”.

Macchour Chaouk’s family say they will not hold a wake until the “other right people are buried”.

Mr Chaouk was gunned down in the backyard of his home in suburban Brooklyn on Friday.

A 57-year-old man arrested over the shooting was released without charge on Saturday.

Mr Chaouk is expected to be buried at Fawkner Cemetery tomorrow, alongside his son Mohamed, who was shot dead at the age of 29 by a member of the elite police Special Operations Group during a raid at the same home in 2005.

A family spokesman told AAP they would celebrate Macchour Chaouk’s life at the funeral, but would not hold a wake.

“There is going to be no wake. We won’t start grieving until the right thing happens. We won’t have a wake until other right people are buried. You understand.”

The Chaouk family spokesman said the service would commemorate Mr Chaouk’s life.

According to the cemetery website, Macchour Chaouk will be buried in the same row and grave position as his son.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the “appropriate resources” would be on hand at the funeral.

Mohamed Chaouk, 31, was shot dead by police in a raid on the family home in 2005 when he was allegedly armed with a sword.

Ali Chaouk, 30, was last month refused bail over a bashing that left a German tourist with a fractured skull.

A cousin of the Chaouks, Ahmed Hablas, 22, has been charged with the murder of rival Lebanese family member Mohamed Haddara, a 28-year-old father of two, in 2009.
