Karen Chetcuti’s neighbour Michael Cardamone charged with her murder at Whorouly

Update 11.43am 19/01/2016

Karen Chetcuti was incapacitated then murdered by her neighbour after she dropped into his house to pick up a punnet of tomatoes, Victorian police have alleged.

Key points:

  • Karen Chetcuti’s neighbour, Michael Cardamone, charged with her murder

  • Body believed to be of Ms Chetcuti found in scrubland

  • Ms Cetcuti allegedly killed when she visited Cardamone, 48, for tomatoes

Michael Cardamone, 48, was this morning charged with Ms Chetcuti’s murder at an out-of-sessions court hearing held at the Wangaratta police station about 1:30am.

He appeared again on Tuesday morning, where police laid another charge of breaching parole against him.

He was remanded in custody.

Ms Chetcuti, a 49-year-old mother of two, was reported missing after disappearing from the small town of Whorouly, near Wangaratta last Tuesday night.

Police search and rescue found a body believed to be that of Ms Chetcuti near Lake Buffalo on Monday afternoon.

The body was found in scrubland off a dirt track and is yet to be formally identified.

A post-mortem examination is being conducted.

Ms Chetcuti’s house shared a boundary with Cardamone’s property, the out-of-sessions court hearing was told.

Detective Senior Sergeant Sol Solomon told the hearing Ms Chetcuti visited Cardamone’s house on Tuesday, January 12 to get a punnet of tomatoes.

Police alleged Cardamone overpowered and incapacitated her, and murdered her somewhere between Whorouly and Dandongedale.

It was also alleged that Cardamone took Ms Chetcuti’s car and burnt it two days later.

The car was found on a bush track near Reform Lookout, not far from Myrtleford.

Cardamone said very little during the brief hearing, responding with his date of birth and address when requested.

He appeared in a white t-shirt, dark tracksuit pants and socks.

He declined to make a statement and said only that he was on prescription medication.

Bail justice Michael Guinane told the hearing the law in Victoria did not allow bail on a murder charge and the outcome of the hearing was fixed.

Chetcuti ‘closely involved’ in Whorouly community

Ms Chetcuti had worked at the Wangaratta Council for 20 years.

The council’s chief executive said staff had been offered counselling.

Brendan McGrath said she was considered a close friend and valued colleague by all who worked there.

“We’re all very shocked and saddened, and we feel for her children and her former husband who was an employee of ours formerly, and the broader Whorouly community, who she’s been very closely involved with,” he said.

Police are yet to formally identify the body but it is believed to be Ms Chetcuti.

Police arrested Ms Chetcuti’s neighbour Michael Cardamone, 48, on Sunday in connection with the suspicious disappearance.

Though Mr Cardamone told Fairfax Media on Friday he was the last to see her, he denied any involvement in her disappearance.

Mr Cardamone is assisting police with inquiries. No charges have been laid.

In a bizarre twist, Fairfax Media understands Mr Cardamone was arrested after he phoned relatives on Saturday claiming he had been kidnapped and was in the boot of a car.

Police, who were notified of the call by his solicitor, located the car in Melbourne, eventually intercepting it in Ringwood after Mr Cardamone allegedly evaded police.

Police, along with SES crews including dive teams, have been searching the areas of Whorouly and Myrtleford trying to find any sign of Ms Chetcuti since her disappearance.

The last confirmed sighting of Ms Chetcuti was at the Whorouly Hotel on Tuesday at 7.20pm.

Ms Chetcuti’s burnt-out red Citroen was found found on a dirt road near Myrtleford at 5.15am on Thursday.

When police searched her home they found the lights on and her phone and handbag left behind.

Ms Chetcuti lived alone at the Whorouly property, sharing custody of her two teenage children with her former husband.

Speaking before her body was found, friend Greg Haysom said Ms Chetcuti was a “major part of Whorouly” and recently helped raise over $20,000 for the football club change rooms.

Mr Haysom described Ms Chetcuti as a “great mother” to her two children.

“I don’t think you will find anyone who would say a bad word about her, she has the most infectious smile,” he said.

A 48-year-old man has been taken into custody by Victorian police investigating the disappearance of Karen Chetcuti.

The 49-year-old mother of two was last seen in her home town of Whorouly – in Victoria’s north east – on Tuesday night.

Her burnt-out car was found 20 kilometres away on Thursday.

Police have declared a crime scene at the property of her neighbour, Michael Cardamone.

He has previously denied any involvement in Ms Chetcuti’s disappearance.

Police divers are searching wells on the missing mother’s property.

Ms Chetcuti was reported missing by a concerned friend on Wednesday at 9:30pm after she did not show up for work that day.

Following her disappearance, police found Ms Chetcuti’s purse and handbag at her home, but her mobile phone was missing.

Earlier this week, Detective Sergeant Sol Soloman from the homicide squad said her disappearance was out of character.

“She is described by people who know her as being very punctual, efficient, she’s very highly thought of.

“Local police went to her home and she wasn’t there. Her car was missing but it was discovered that there were lights on in the house and her handbag and purse were still there.”

A convicted rapist says he was the last person to see a mother-of-two before she disappeared from the small Victorian country town of Whorouly.

Michael Cardamone told Fairfax Media he was not involved with Karen Chetcuti’s disappearance, now the subject of a homicide squad investigation, but he was the last person to see her before she went missing.

“I don’t know what’s happened,” he said.

Mr Cardamone, who was released from jail last year after serving nine years for rape, lives around the corner from the 49-year-old mother in the town of Whorouly, near Wangaratta.

Their properties share a boundary.

Victoria Police say the last confirmed sighting of Ms Chetcuti was leaving the Whorouly Hotel at 7.20pm on Tuesday.

Police released this photo of Karen Chetcuti's car.Police released this photo of Karen Chetcuti’s car.

But Mr Cardamone said he had invited Ms Chetcuti to his home to collect some tomatoes that he had grown and she was at his property from 8.40pm to 9.15pm that night.

“When she left here, she took off towards home,” he said.

He said the container of tomatoes she had taken was later found on a bench in Ms Chetcuti’s home.

Mr Cardamone was also interviewed by other media on Friday, telling them he had spoken to Ms Chetcuti over the fence at 9.15pm on Tuesday after he had been picking tomatoes.

Police searched parts of Mr Cardamone’s property on Friday and he said detectives had questioned him.

“I’m stressed out to the max, I haven’t been sleeping,” he said.

Mr Cardamone said he was being targeted because of his “incarceration”. He said investigators were welcome to search his home.

He said a white car had been seen leaving Ms Chetcuti’s home on Tuesday night, with her red car following behind. Her car was found burnt-out in Myrtleford, about 20 kilometres away, at 5.15am on Thursday.

Mr Cardamone said he saw Ms Chetcuti’s red car parked in a side street near the Target store in Myrtleford sometime before it was set alight.

It is understood another neighbour saw a white car leaving the Ms Chetcuti’s home on Tuesday night, but it is unclear as to what time.

Police said they were speaking to a number of people in relation to the disappearance.

Homicide Squad investigators visited Mr Cardamone’s home shortly after 2pm on Friday.

Three detectives spent about five minutes at the home, knocked on his door and checked around the back and garage.

There was no sign of Mr Cardamone, though his white ute was parked outside. Detectives would not say why they were there.

Earlier on Friday, homicide squad detective Sergeant Sol Solomon said suspicions were raised about the disappearance when Ms Chetcuti did not turn up for work on Wednesday.

He said police checked her home and found the lights had been left on, and her handbag and wallet were still there. At that stage, her car was still missing.

“It certainly paints a picture of the involvement of a second party in her disappearance,” he said.

“There was no sign of any struggle or disturbance having occurred there.”

Ms Chetcuti, the mother of two teenagers, is well-known and liked in the Whorouly and Wangaratta area.

She had moved from Melbourne to Whorouly with her husband, who she is now separated from, to run the pub about two decades ago. The pair were publicans for about five years before Ms Chetcuti began working for the City of Wangaratta, where she had most recently been a records coordinator.

“Karen is a popular and valued member of staff,” City of Wangaratta chief executive officer Brendan McGrath said.

Friend Greg Haysom said Ms Chetcuti, who serves on a number of committees, is a “major part of Whorouly” and recently helped raise over $20,000 for the football club change rooms.

Mr Haysom described Ms Chetcuti as a “great mother” to her two children.

“I don’t think you will find anyone who would say a bad word about her, she has the most infectious smile,” he said.

Detectives continued to search Whorouly and Myrtleford on Saturday.

Police focused on a number of areas of interest, including the properties behind Ms Chetcuti’s.

The area is mostly sparse farmland and long grass, but officers did go through a junkyard of old cars a couple of kilometres behind the missing woman’s property.

There were also line searches in long grass adjacent to where her burnt-out car was found on Thursday morning.

The car, now at Wangaratta police station, was found engulfed in flames on Halls Road, which becomes a dirt road leading up to a lookout in Myrtleford, about 20 kilometres from Whorouly.

The road runs next to state forest, in which specialist police on dirt bikes went into on Friday morning.

On the other side of it is paddocks, which police and SES focused on for their line searches. Houses are nearby.

Police released new photos of Ms Chetcuti and her car in a further attempt to garner information as to her whereabouts.

Detectives would like to speak to anyone who saw Ms Chetcuti or her red 2004 Citroen Sara, with registration XWC 149, any time after 7.20pm on Tuesday.

They would also like to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area.

Detectives said they have also narrowed down Ms Chetcuti’s movements on Tuesday, releasing security vision of her at Aldi in Wangaratta between 5.12pm and 5.17pm before she went to the Whorouly Hotel for a drink.

Detectives said on Friday she had not been seen or heard from since she left the hotel at 7.20pm.

This is despite her neighbour Mr Cardamone claiming Ms Chetcuti had been at his property between 8.40pm and 9.15pm.

Investigators urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

The investigation into the disappearance of a Whorouly woman took a turn on Saturday night, with police now searching for a convicted rapist who said he was the last to see her before she disappeared.

Homicide Squad detectives visited the home of Michael Cardamone, whose property borders missing woman Karen Chetcuti’s, twice on Saturday to speak with him, but he was not home. It is understood police could not locate him.

They have refused to comment on whether Mr Cardamone, a convicted rapist, is a person of interest, though Mr Cardamone himself told Fairfax Media and News Corp in bizarre interviews on Friday that he believed he was being targeted because of his prior offence.

In both interviews, conducted separately, he was adamant he had nothing to do with her disappearance and said he was the last to see her. He told Fairfax Media the well-known and well-liked 49-year-old had come over to his house to collect tomatoes, which he grows. She stayed there, he said, from 8.40pm to 9.15pm on Tuesday.

The search for Mrs Chetcuti is entering its fourth day, with the police focus still squarely on the Whorouly and Myrtleford areas.

The last confirmed sighting police have of Ms Chetcuti was leaving the Whorouly Hotel at 7.20pm on Tuesday.

State Emergency Service personnel searched Mr Cardamone’s farm on Friday and he said police had spoken to him.

There was no sign of Mr Cardamone on Saturday and his white ute remained in the driveway.

Fairfax Media was told on Saturday there may be at least three suspects being investigated over the disappearance.

Meanwhile, the SES conducted line searches in the paddocks that surround Ms Chetcuti’s home, as well as behind the Whorouly Hotel.

Police also searched old cars in a junkyard, situated about two kilometres behind Ms Chetcuti’s.

Line searches were also happening in paddocks next to the road where the mother-of-two’s car was found burnt out 20 kilometres away in Myrtleford.

The red Citroen was dumped and set alight in Halls Road, which becomes a dirt road leading up to a lookout close to the town.

Police released further details and a photo of the 2004 Citroen Xsara, registration plate XWC 149, on Saturday in the hope it would elicit more information.

“Detectives are now piecing together Karen’s movements and are requesting public assistance,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

They confirmed an earlier sighting of Ms Chetcuti, at the Aldi supermarket in Wangaratta between 5.12pm and 5.17pm on Tuesday.

Police said she was then at the Whorouly Hotel until 7.20pm.

Suspicions were raised when she did not turn up for work at the City of Wangaratta on Wednesday, where she most recently worked as its records coordinator.

A friend reported her missing later on Wednesday before her burnt-out car was found at 5.15am on Thursday. That, plus the state her house was left in – undisturbed, but with her car gone, handbag still there and lights still on – triggered a homicide squad investigation.

“It certainly paints a picture of the involvement of a second party in her disappearance,” Detective Senior Sergeant Sol Solomon said in an interview on Friday.

“There was no sign of any struggle or disturbance having occurred there.”

Ms Chetcuti is the mother of two teenagers, is well-known in the Whorouly and Wangaratta area.

She had moved from Melbourne to Whorouly with her husband, who she is now separated from, to run the pub about two decades ago. The pair were publicans for about five years before Ms Chetcuti began working for the City of Wangaratta.

  • He was the last person to see the 49-year-old Wangaratta council manager
  • Ms Chetcuti’s car was found burnt out on Thursday 20km from her home
  • Homicide detectives believe she is the victim of foul play

A convicted rapist who claims he is the last person to see missing Karen Chetcuti has been questioned as police reveal they hold grave fears for the mother-of-two.

Michael Cardomone, who was released from jail in July 2015 after serving nine years for rape, denied any part in the disappearance of Ms Chetcuti, from Whorouly, Victoria.

His property was searched and he questioned by detectives about Ms Chetcuti, who was last seen on Tuesday at around 7.20pm.

Mr Cardomone said he had invited the City of Wangaratta manager to pick tomatoes about 9pm on Tuesday, The Age reported.

Earlier that evening, Ms Chetcuti left the Whorouly Hotel in Whorouly, south of Wangaratta, at around 7.30pm.

Mr Cardomone and another neighbour are both believed to have seen a white car leaving Ms Chetcuti’s property on Tuesday evening, with her red sedan following.

A concerned friend reported her missing on Wednesday after she did not turn up for work, and her car was found burnt out 20km away from Whorouly on Halls Road, Myrtleford on Thursday morning.

Police fear Ms Chetcuti may be a victim of foul play. They continued the search for her on Saturday morning

Ms Chetcuti, 49, is a mother to two teenagers and a manager at the City of Wanagaratta

Mr Cardomone said he saw her car parked in the town ‘sometime’ before it was torched, The Age reported.

‘That’s totally alarming to us – the vehicle being burnt in that fashion,’ Detective Sergeant Sol Solomon told 3AW on Friday.

‘(She) didn’t turn up for work on Wednesday, which is highly out of character for her.

‘She’s well known as being highly punctual, highly thought of and very efficient in her life.’

Homicide detectives suspect she was the victim of foul play.

‘I strongly suspect that there is someone, or some others involved,’ Detective Sergeant Sol Solomon told reporters on Friday.

‘I really hope she’s still alive, she could be still alive, but the longer it goes, the more grave the situation becomes,’ he said.

Det Sgt Solomon said what was found at Ms Chetcuti's home - lights on, her purse and handbag left behind, but no mobile phone to be found - was 'a situation that appeared out of order'

On the evening she was reported as last being seen, she went to the Whorouly Hotel

Ms Chetcuti left the hotel about 7.30pm on Tuesday evening. Her neighbour, convicted rapist Michael Cardomone, claims he saw her later that evening, about 9pm

CCTV footage of Ms Chetcuti at a supermarket at 5pm on Tuesday shows her wearing a cream or yellow tank top and a dark skirt.

Ms Chetcuti is 175cm tall, of a medium build, with dark brown shoulder-length hair.

Her two children, aged 14 and 15, are staying with their father, who is separated from their mother.

Police have been providing support to the family.

Det Sgt Solomon said there was no suggestion the father was involved in the disappearance.

Homicide Squad detectives, the Missing Persons Squad, sniffer dogs and local SES members were searching bushland near where her car was found, 50km from Wangaratta.

The search for Ms Chetcuti, who left her house with the lights on and bag and purse at home – but not her mobile phone – resumed at first light on Saturday.

Victoria Police told Daily Mail Australia Saturday’s search was focusing on Whorouly, Ms Chetcuti’s home town.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw Karen or her red 2004 Citroen Sara, registration XWC 149, any time after 7.20pm on Tuesday.

They also want to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area.

  1. Does anyone know more about Michael Cardamone ?
9 years is a fairly excessive sentence for our piss weak justice system to hand out for rape so I`m guessing it was something vile and vicious this lowlife did to get a 9 year sentence.
Would just love to know what he originally did (without all the details) and any other types of crime he has committed other than sexual ?

  2. Here we go again, same old, same all, another cunning scumbag rapist inmate MICHEAL CARDAMONE who had been in jail for 9 years and set free presumed rehabilitated in prison?, and no doubt deemed safe by the powers that be to be unsupervised on parole and trusted to be back into the community that he would hurt no victim, no more.
And was the Wangaratta and district community aware or told that he had been let out of jail as a known imprisoned rapist sex offender and was living back in the community. – NO – Of course not!…It just goes to show, HOW MANY, of these known convicted violent sex offenders are freely unsupervised creeping and roaming around our communities or living in our streets nearby. It would be truly frightening if we really knew just how many of these ‘dogs’ are blended secretly back in amongst us! Why isn’t this maggot dogs sex offending record made available to the community and where he will be living, when he is rehabilitated out of jail. If he got a minimum sentence of 9 years in jail, he would be a nasty piece of shit.
How can we get hold of his past criminal record and what got him sent to prison, in the first place.
Make you furious doesn’t it our continual justice system forgiveness of deviate violent sex offenders. And this maggot dog is now a serial sex offender, which makes it even worse, that he was back roaming in the community!…

  3. Cannot find this imprisoned sex offender on the MAKO/Files. Looks like another creep that has been secretly released under the radar, with only the police having knowledge of his rape criminal history. So he got out of jail just recently in 2015. So what’s he been up to, do the Adult Parole Board have any idea. Obviously not. Cunningly and shifty does his reporting into the office of the Department of Justice – Corrections Victoria. Then stalks another victim as they all do these Cretans. They con all concerned and then rape and now murder as well. The usual offending patterns of these predatory creeps. How many more of them are blending quietly back into society amongst us after serving time in Victoria’s Protection Sex Offenders Prisons.
It’s just no acceptable. Thy need to be monitored with tracking devices for life, if they are going to be set free back into the community. Nothing is being learnt by the Department of Justice since the fatal mistakes time after time of setting free predators of the ilk of Adrian Bayley, Jason Dinsley and Gary Barker/ Collingwood and Peter Dupas, Sean Christian Price. All set free again with notorious violent and sex offending backgrounds. But it continues to be not in their public’s risk assessment safety measures interests to keep these filthy depraved dogs locked away indefinitely in a secure custodial environment, where they cannot harm anymore victims ever again. And easier for the care for criminals justice authorities to just lighten the over crowed prisons by just letting them off there leash to continue finding, stalking and heinous re-offending with absolutely no supervision when their free through the prison reviling gates.

  4. So much for Victoria having at their disposal – Sex-Offender monitoring Orders and Hi technology GPS radio frequency bracelets that track the exact location of imprisoned or supervision order rapist sex offenders. Also why wasn’t he in The Village of the Damned ‘Corella Place’, in Ararat, because he certainly was and is still a risk of re-offending and definitely not rehabilitated, if he only got out of jail in 2015. Had these precautions of a strict sex offending order and GPS monitoring bracelet been mandatory enforced upon MICHAEL CARDAMONE, and stricter supervision and reporting requirements placed on him, their may have been a lesser change of him being able to stalk, hunt and murder this innocent woman in Wangaratta.

    1. Just read these – what a piece of work !
I hope some bloody parole board member/Judge feels bloody guilty for releasing this piece of fetid shit.
      Somehow I doubt it though….

  5. It was only a matter of time before another woman would become another statistic in an extremely long line of rape and murder in this piss weak society. Its a sad and predictable fact. The parole board, Corrections Victoria and others responsible for this ugly filthy peice of shits release blood on your hands again what a bunch of wankers. They are the only mob Ive noticed that dont get sacked when they stuff up. Another gripe is there are people out there that know this freak is a filthy vicious, rapist and they say nothing they are weak cowards with no backbone. Even if someone had of put an anonymous note in the womans letterbox but no its all to do with protecting the ugly creep. She had no idea she had a rapist living next door to her. This ugly creep needs to be hunted down tied up and shot what a dumb liar hes all over the place cops found him in Reservoir. The stupid bastard couldnt help himself cant fix a f..ked up head that controls the dick. It should have been cut off. If I was a family member Id hunt him down before he became protected by the piss weak law. Sadly its out of control there will be more if only the tables could turn for once and the predator ends up floating face down revenge is sweet. Dam thats got to happen.

  6. So True Reagan, if it was one of our loved ones, vigilante justice, pure and simple and eye for an eye!… This MAGGOT DOG, MICHAEL CARDAMONE is as bad as ADRIAN ERNEST BAYLEY and PETER NORRIS DUPAS. And just like them all, he was set free from ‘PROTECTION SEX OFFENDERS PRISON and as they all do go on to commit even far worse crimes to satisfy these sick depraved violent rape urges.
What he put this vulnerable victim through, is very disturbing to read.
This then young woman will carry the scars from this depraved putrid beast for the rest of her life.
What he done to her by force rape sexually and then cunningly and blatantly lied about having sex with a prostitute. I want to just throw this mongrel o a bonfire alive!
How on earth can a judge after having read this ‘THE QUEEN V MICHAEL CARDAMONE’, even give this scumbag only 6 years non-parole with a 9 year Maximum, when he had the power in his hands to sentence him to the maximum sentence for violent RAPE to 25 years.
And further more an appeal against his 9 year maximum sentence, appealed against because CARDAMONE felt it too harsh a prison sentence.
WHY won’t a JUDGE ever sent a RAPIST away for 25 years as the maximum is in the Victorian Sentencing Act ???…
Well just like BAYLEY and DUPAS, he will now, TO LITTLE – TO LATE , get about 34 years non- parole with a soft judge.
Which is no comfort to the family of this innocent latest lady victim.
My wish is that the Victims of Crime, that being the murdered – raped victims family, should be able to decide the final outcome of the predators prison sentence when found guilty.
And no appeals should be allowed for heinous cases like this one, especially as CARDAMONE was all ready a registered dangerous – violent – prior imprisonment SEX OFFENDER…
If MICHAEL CARDAMONE is found guilty by a jury in the Supreme Court, he should be sentenced to the maximum allowed prison sentence for each indictable offence he has committed and all these totalled up. For example Rape = 25 years , Murder = 25years to life. Assault up to 10 years.
Arson – 10 years and so on! – No less than 60 to 100 years or more.
Its done and handed out long sentencing like this in the United State Justice Departments.
So Angry at our weak Justice System and lenient sentencing for evil violent predatory offenders.
And its never going to change in Victoria or Australia, with our out of touch judiciary!…
There all living on another planet and not listening to the outraged concerned ordinary people…

  7. The question is Reagan, how can we sack them all. We cannot, and they all know that the legal do-gooders. A State wide public protest at the Department of Justice, would be a start, but they or it would just get moved on and shut down the coppers and arrest us on site. Then we would be the criminals. A public march like was done for Jill Meagher in Brunswick, would again show public community anger. But that didn’t achieve enough, as the new appointed Adult Parole Board is just as useless as The former David Provan led Victorian Adult Parole Board that set Adrian Ernest Bayley and the rest of the many well known serial recidivists free.
The Government will not toughen up either, as they are also as weak as piss, they won’t do anything as most Labour pollies and ministers are former human rights crim lovers and lawyers, social workers etc.
So how can the people of Victoria, shake up the pathetically weak judiciary, that puts criminal rights before the Victims of crime. Also some judges, magistrates need to stand down from there bench, as they just are not sentencing criminals to maximum sentences. This well known of PAROLED RAPIST Monster MICHAEL CARDAMONE, was set free with his horrendous sex crimes record as well as being a drug user and dealer by the Victorian Adult Parole Board, just like BAYLEY and PRICE, and no warning to the public, and obviously no strict supervision and close monitoring done on him.
So the Victorian Adult Parole Board and The Department of Justice are as much responsible for allowing this lying serial creep to easy blend back into the community. A Legal class action against Corrections Victoria, The Department of Justice and their Adult Parole Board is maybe the only legal option available to the public anger over all these past failures to the public safety and them allowing dangerous known criminals to go free, despite these known criminals being set free and the APB’s hierarchy of deliberate ignorance of a major risk assessment being taken into account against all these paroled violent recidivist offenders, despite them all knowing the concerned Victorian community have had enough of them just letting dangerous criminals back out to stalk, hunt, rape and kill.
The city of Wangaratta has to make a start with protests against the Victorian Government, a march to the steps of Victorian Parliament and the Headquarters of The Department of Justice – The Victorian Adult Parole Board. Would at least put them on notice, that we are a very angry community, by there weak handing of convicted violent criminals and especially known sex-offenders that they keep releasing from prison and also the Judges that are not handing out longer appropriate long prison sentences to these dangerous criminals in the first place!…

  8. Good point F.P.O a smart idea the city of Wangaratta need to step up and start the ball rolling even the family Its their call and others will follow. As you know in other countries there would be an all out riot in the streets. I rang the weak bastards once I was not abusive my approach was calm and typical I was hung up on. They are asking for it big time enough is enough. The prick even got a house in a decent country town with a second chance and no it couldnt help itself the vial filth. He sucked the Parole board in and the other dickheads big time. The place should be burnt down that would set them back a while. What a mess this countries in.

  9. Yeah Reagan, with this cunning lying evil filths known deviate sex offending and prior imprisonment , and the fact it is now being disclosed to the public he was on parole and they knew where he lived. The police may have already had an idea who did the murder, just like Bayley, many knew who and what he was, but he still walked around unsupervised on parole and continued to commit serious violent offences until he committed murder.
I bet the Adult Parole Board and The Department of Justice read Aussie Criminals and hate our guts. Well not as much as we hate them.
I would think that poor Tom Meagher and Jillian’s Meaghers parents and family in Ireland, have heard about this latest Adult Parole Board, setting another rapist – killer free from jail unsupervised.
It will bring it all back to them. – How the then Victorian Adult Parole Board didn’t keep a leash on Adrian Bayley.
The dangerous criminals in the jails are just laughing at us!…

  10. True F.P.O Im suprised the Meagher family didnt form a group to consider sueing that pathetic mob there are plenty of victims families left to mourn the loss of slaughtered loved ones why not, oh maybe its in the too hard basket but its easy too give them a send off and throw a few white doves up in the air and balloons. That sucks in my eyes. Fight for justice dont just cop it sweet. But dont for christ sake become a mater like Batty thats distasteful I cant stand the woman. The Vic Parole Board states on their website they play an important role in the justice system by managing the appropriate release of offenders on parole orders to enhance the safety of the community in their decision making, what propaganda bullshit is that. Absolute liars.

  11. Sadly the majority of Australians are pacifests they dont know how to express the right emotion to fit the incident and fair enough who am I to say whats right and whats wrong. Thats the way these people are, there will be a light a candle ceremony on facebook. How nice. Some people are so civilised and polite even after a vicious brutal rape and murder. No need for authorities to be concerned about any backlash on the Vic Parole Board or Corrections Vic no rioting in the streets its all calm and its on facebook. Wow wee!

  12. Yeah like Corrections Victoria the Department of Justice think they are making a safer society while having empathy for all offenders self improvement towards rehabilitation. This is their mission statement.
Even when I was a Prison Officer with the then Office of Corrections during basic training, it was drummed into us at academy that we must not be judgmental towards prisoners and so them respect and maintain a safe distance but show compassion and human decency and humane containment within the then new prison regime rules of Unit Management and obey human rights to all prisoners, no matter what their crime committed. There punishment is the prisoners loss of liberty and they were not going to prison to be punished but just lose their freedom!
It was difficult being non judgmental towards inmates, when finding out what notorious crime they had committed on innocent people. I didn’t agree with this, but this was the then new transition role of a Prison Corrections Officer in comparison from the brutal strict and basher Screw- Prison Officer or (Warder- Turnkey) days, like was the way in the gaols in the 1960’s like Grafton and Bathurst and the once brutal H.Division of Pentridge.
    From the 1990’s
In so as far as The Luke Batty domestic murder goes, she does sort of like the spot light, but like all of these domestic violence murders, take Daniel Valero murdered by PAUL AITON, for an example, it too could have been avoided by better DHS, intervention. The same with that creep TORNEY in the horrible child abuse and child murder recently in Mildura, all were preventable had the authorities concerned intervened much sooner, rather than not at all? They were was avoidable, including the Luke Batty domestic murder and it was horrible what GREG ANDERSON, a known violent arsehole offender ended up doing to his own son.
So like her or not, Rosie Batty has reasons to be outspoken all the time on the public soapbox for trying to right the very system that let her and her son be victimised and killed by her husband Greg Anderson, who repeatedly his breeched his ABO’s – Intervention orders.
But having said that, I agree she does rub you the wrong way, with her in your face, way about her.
But I do sympathise with her as she is a victim of horrible crime, just like the Morcombe family and the Halvagis family that had their daughter Mersina taken away from them by recidivist parolee serial rapist Peter Dupas. So at least Rosie Batty tries to stand up for what is right for victims of crime. I would not want to be in any of these traumatised families shoes, and if any of them can make any of a change for the best, then good luck to them, they deserve to be given Australia Day honours, or whatever accolades be pinned on their chest.

My sole hatred is with the endless continual unaccountable and unnecessary stuff up failures of the Victorian Adult Parole Boards, Department of Human Services, Corrections Victoria decisions, both past and present, who could have avoided many horrible crimes, including the domestic violence murders and Serial and predatory like rapes and murders etc, just like this creep rapist murderer MICHAEL CARDAMONE and ADRIAN BAYLEY, SEAN PRICE etc, if they had thoroughly supervised their offenders properly and or said PAROLE DENIED, if they were not certain or convinced that those dangerous inmates up for parole in prison, 100 per cent showed no signs of ever being rehabilitated or cunningly lied to the Parole Board that they were now now suitable for release and no longer a threat to the community. These shifty inmates kept conning the Adult Parole Board members who fell for their habitual lies, and believed them reformed or rehabilitated, when they truly were not! And the community has and continues to pay for their weak judgment failures. And dangerous prisoners who cannot ever be rehabilitated go free!

HAVE A GOOD READ OF THIS BELOW! This lying MICHAEL CARDAMONE, on his past despicable low-life lying cunning, pleading not guilty rapist form, with a good criminal defence lawyer, helping him along the way, will try and drag out the long court due process chain on him , just like the serial Rapists – Murderers – Peter Dupas and Adrian Bayley, have or are still trying to do one way or the other by prolonging the victims continual torture and anger, using the law at what it does best dragging or drawing along the lack of closure to their heinous crimes with more years of pain and suffering on the victims family, with court appearances after court appearances, to break their prison boredom, Evil Scum bag Dupas dragged his legal chain for at least 10 years, with appeals and demanding re-trials before he eventually got a Life in prison sentence. The criminals have this legal right to do this, because they can?… Its so wrong. But that’s our Legal system!…

  14. Its a heartfelt idea good on Derryn theres a real man that cares. I recall there was a march for Jill Meagher too but the parole board and corrections officers and the other do gooders responsible have made more mistakes since. If this is the way of our country and they continue to release these pathetic bastards it really is up to us the public to focus on being guarded and street wise.Dont get sucked in. Wakeup and get smarter about predators. I hope this march will make a difference.
