  1. Hi there admin! ๐Ÿ™‚ I posted this morning about 7.00am which hasn’t appeared, am wondering if it went into spam? It was a long post with an article on how many women are victims of domestic violence. Thanks for looking after us here, it’s much appreciated.

  2. This is the article I thought I’d posted earlier. I’m aghast at the statistics in this report, Australia doesn’t fare that well either, 23.2 per cent, nearly 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence in their lives. What are we becoming as a society? The last sentence is particularly concerning too, although we have known this for a long time.

Here’s the article from the CM this morning:

“MORE than one woman in three around the globe is a victim of domestic violence, with those in Asia and the Middle East most affected by the scourge, the World Health Organisation says.

In what it billed as the first-ever systematic study of global data on the prevalence of violence against women and its health impact, the UN agency said 30 per cent worldwide faced such abuse at the hands of their partners.

“These to me are shocking statistics,” said Flavia Bustreo, head of the WHO’s family, women’s and children’s health division.

“It’s also shocking that this phenomenon cuts across the entire world,” she told reporters.

The WHO blamed taboos that prevent victims from coming forward, failings in medical and justice systems, and norms that mean men and women may see violence as acceptable.

The findings were extrapolated from figures provided by 81 countries which maintain data, and did not single out individual nations.

The scale of abuse was highest in Asia, where data from Bangladesh, East Timor, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand showed that 37.7 per cent of women were affected.

Next was the Middle East, where prevalence averaged at 37 per cent. Sub-Saharan Africa followed, with 36.6 per cent.

An average of 23.2 per cent were affected in a group of high-income countries including North America, the European Union, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

“These data really show the tremendous toll violence has on the health of women,” said Claudia Garcia-Moren, a WHO specialist on gender, reproductive rights, sexual health and adolescence.

Underlining the impact of such abuse, the WHO said that globally, 38 per cent of female murder victims were killed by their partners.

In addition, it said, violence also leaves scars long after bruises disappear and broken bones heal.

Women with a violent partner were twice as likely to suffer from depression and develop an alcohol problem, compared to women who did not experience abuse.

Victims of violence were also found to be far more likely to contract a range of sexually-transmitted diseases, from syphilis to HIV.

The study also flagged the higher likelihood of abused women having an unwanted pregnancy, an abortion, or an underweight baby – and their children were more likely to become abusers or victims in adulthood.”

“The study also flagged the higher likelihood of abused women having an unwanted pregnancy, an abortion, or an underweight baby โ€“ and their children were more likely to become abusers or victims in adulthood.โ€ This is the problem. . .it is a cycle which is difficult to break, with much of it happening behind closed doors.

Reading your post with regard to domestic violence, it is chilling.

I had some thoughts (ta daaaaaaaa lol).

Remember the old movies, whereas the women and men would quite happily slap each other over the face? It seemed to be so accepted.

The bullying that is ignored in schools – this could be ground zero.

  5. I found MMโ€™s post from 20th June. โ€œRB โ€“ first of all find a little gravatar picture you would like among the images on the internet that are for free or alternatively โ€ฆ just go to http://en.gravatar.com and start there.โ€

Here is how I did it. As MM says itโ€™s best to choose your Avatar first and save it (as a jpg file) where you can find it, I just saved mine on my desktop. When you click on the link above this is what you do. Enter your email address in the space and click โ€˜Get your Gravatarโ€™.
You can use your WordPress account to sign in. I couldnโ€™t remember my login so at this point I clicked on โ€˜create a new oneโ€™. It provides you with a username and you make up your own password. Click โ€˜sign upโ€™. At this point an email is sent to you by WordPress.com and you need to click on the โ€˜activate your accountโ€™ button in the email. Clicking on the link it takes you back to the site and youโ€™ve now created a WordPress account. On the site click on โ€˜Sign in to Avatarโ€™. Click โ€˜find an imageโ€™ at the top.

Choose the โ€˜previously uploaded imageโ€™ option, and find the gravatar youโ€™ve saved on your computer. Choose the image by double clicking on it and youโ€™ll see the file name appear. Click โ€˜nextโ€™. It then asks you to crop the image, I didnโ€™t bother doing this and just clicked on โ€˜Crop and finishโ€™ at the bottom. I then chose the โ€˜Gโ€™ option (general use) and it linked the Avatar with my email address.

Next time you post on the site it will show up. Good luck everyone!

  12. Just throwing this out there. Someone I know is being scammed on a dating site. After everything we’ve heard about these scams you’d think people would be wise to them, but no, here we have a perfectly sane, middle-aged professional woman who has met a ‘man’ online and has (within weeks) already parted with $5,000 sent by MoneyGram to an account in Malaysia. A request for a further $20,000 has been made and is being considered (a loan will have to be taken out). It has caused division and angst in her family of adult children, and NO advice is taken on board. The police have been notified, including the fraud squad, and still it goes on. This poor woman believes this man actually exists! She tells people she is in a relationship. All contact is made via text messages (in poor English) or Facebook (his profile pic is of a European man, supposedly from the Netherlands. A businessman running a multinational company who is experience financial problems at the moment). Yeah, right! Calls to his mobile number (given to police by concerned and desperate family) go straight to message bank. He is overseas and can’t come to Aust to meet her until she gives him more money to pay for flights, accommodation, blah blah blah.
I think Blind Freddy and a new born baby could spot all the pointers to this being a right royal scam. But it’s amazing how loneliness or the need to be loved can skew the view.
I hope this post is helpful to somebody out there.

Before I moved to QLD 5 years ago I used dating sites for years and met so many really nice, decent chaps. Most were on there after long term marriages broke up so they had lots of baggage and definitely not able to give their best in a relationship but nonetheless, they were all great as companions if nothing else – while it lasted. All partings were amicable and I keep in touch online with quite a few of them. You can pick a rotten apple within a very small number of message exchanges.

Well within an hour we had 12 emails from different people, all worked on oil rigs in different career positions and all were unable to phone because of bad weather which knocked out their satellite so had to use iPad??? They all were buying the car for a friend or relative but couldn’t get here personally. So they were sending an agent after they had deposited the full amount for the car… So, I played along, lol. Until the point where a problem had arisen. The agent needed payment up front for his fee but wanted it by credit card and they didn’t have one, lol – what a surprise! So my son was to pay the agent and they would reimburse him ๐Ÿ˜‰ It was fun to lead them on. I told them the pickup address was behind the Wynnum Police Station (where my son supposedly lived). I said I (my son) would not be available all the time but my father – Senior Sgt Joe Blow would greet the agent if I weren’t home, lol. And still they answered me back trying to get the credit card payment. All had weird names, half English and half foreign.

    1. It’s very kind of you all to let me off, however I confused myself enough to need to know why… What was so bizarre about last night and the charts I was looking at, was that there was barely a blip in Rudd’s chart and I ‘read’ that as his loss in the ballot.

My belly-button fluff tells me today, that ‘politics’ is a whole different ball-game from ‘crime’- in astrology interpretation anyway. Looking at it from that angle, politics is more about political careers (within a team), than personal projection as an individual – although both are going on simultaneously.

That’s a totally different focus in an astrology chart. Personal is the 1st house and career is the 10th. Last night was 10th house stuff.

When I earlier referred to KR’s planets being more bright than JG’s with the Sept election date, well that’s now obvious – JG pulled the plug on the power source, so I’m back to square one.

Am looking forward to an election date in order to ‘have a go’ and see what the heavens have to say.

          1. Dear MM,

It isn’t the politicians whose charts you read who manipulate the system. It is who is behind them that runs the country and makes the decisions.

Their charts would be the ones of whom you need to read.

  26. OMG Admin! I think you have just hit a nail plonk on the head.
When I wrote the post, I was thinking of the principal, rather than the person.
This person and his policies are very dangerous. Make no mistake about that.
Forget the whales, the koala bears, the wildlife, the stuff that touches the soul, the ad infinitum. That’s just a Front.
What isn’t a front is the Policies that they are successful in implementing.
Make the landowner give over his land to the wildlife etc. There is some sort of “endangered species” there. (So they say) Be it plant or animal.
    They force this policy:
No controlled fire burns. No tree clearing. No cattle or domestic animals allowed to forage in State forest country. Oh no, better that the debris build up on the ground. And stay there all ready and building up for the next great Big HOT Bush Fire. NO Stewardship!
This action alone is responsible for massive carnage of not just Wildlife but other animals also, sometimes people as well, when the terrible Bush Fires happen. These fires are fuelled by the fodder that the so called greenies claim to protect. Debris. Dry and dead stuff that suffocates any new green growth.
    However the truth is:
Land and property requires responsible STEWARD-SHIP. Stewardship requires understanding, thoughtfulness, considerations, care and actions: not platitudes or statements designed to attract political mileage.
The “Greenies” are one of the biggest threat to our Government and its Policies and common sense since Australia began.
PS I am a real wildlife lover and carer. Difference is: Actions speak louder than words.
PPS I am NOT a moslem or God hater aka God non-respecter, or non respecter of God’s created beings, either.

Looking at the polls this morning it looks like Labor have done the right thing for themselves.

May I humbly suggest that you include the fortunes of the apparently starstruck lovers who have previously kept their secret from the public until jointly deciding to relinquish their public roles?

Today’s TV footage looked like “flaunting” to me.

And then of course, there is the little kid who was in the candy shop for a while, apparently at their convenience. Wide-eyed at meeting queens and kings and living in two of the best houses in Australia.

        The poor bastard.

            2. JULIA GILLARD: My relationship with Craig Emerson was a very important one to me. Being involved with a colleague has got its down side in the sense that drawing the line between what’s work and what’s not work becomes increasingly blurred. Craig and I were staying together at a hotel and I’d managed to forget to pack my contact lens holder. So I was just storing the contact lenses at the bottom of a glass, which wasn’t exactly the smartest thing in the world to do. Er, so…in the bathroom, this glass with the contact lenses and a bit of solution in them. So, you know, during the course of the night, Craig gets up and thinking it’s water, grabs the glass and drinks it. So I was wandering around National Conference blind for the next morning. I did have to give the Health Policy Report at the podium not basically able to see my notes or see the audience. Craig and I lived in different states in very demanding positions. And in the hurly-burly of the Labor world, ultimately it was just too difficult. I’m not involved in a relationship now, and you know, your, sort of, your life history rolls on.

      More of the article here:

‘”This is a shocking decision that does not reflect community expectations,” Mr Gallacher said.

“The community rightly expects those who engage in child sex assault to receive a custodial sentence.”

Karen Willis, of the NSW Rape Crisis Centre, said there was no legal reason incest should not be treated as seriously as any rape or sexual assault.

“If he had done this to a complete stranger it would be a different story and the world would be baying for his blood,” she said.

“If someone had taken a child from the street and sexually assaulted them over years, they would be jailed.”

The maximum sentence the father faced was 20 years.’

    2. Probably not. I know of a case where the mother allowed the convicted paedophile โ€˜fatherโ€™ to have her daughter. She abducted the child & went on the run with the convicted paedophile & then wrote to the newspapers saying how hard done by she was & how it was all DOCS fault. This poor excuse for a mother also got her daughter to get other little girls for the convicted paedophile. One little girl disclosed what was happening so the โ€˜motherโ€™ verbally abused the child so badly that she was too scared to tell anyone else. โ€œMotherโ€™ gave the child $10 each time after that she was left with the convicted paedophile. The convicted paedophile was on parole when they went on the run so he went back to jail. He called the cops in on the 18th Jan 2000 & told them about all the other little girls he had had & that the โ€˜motherโ€™ knew what was happening. She has never been charged.

    1. How horrific, just found it on the net bill. Two gay men in north Qld adopted a little boy from Russia, and systematically sexually abused him from the age of 2. In a global operation, investigators discovered a child abuse network these 2 guys were part of, which promoted – get ready for it – sex with little boys from the ages of 2 to 10 yrs which they regard as a ‘form of consensual love between man and boy’. They appear to have bust this network and so far identified 670 suspects, arrested 184 and found 230 child victims who have since been identified and rescued. These animals effectively sold their son to other men. Depraved is just not an adequate word to describe this.

I am reposting, as you removed my post and a previous post.

        WHY???

Could you please advise why, in the general public’s view, there appears to be a media blackout with regard to the Baden-Clay case with Baden-Clay being able to access top Legal representation through Legal Aid? Why, we, the public, are allegedly paying for top representation for Baden-Clay’s Legal Aid and if his relative, Alex, is still working for Legal Aid on the Grant’s Board? We, the general public, are greatly concerned that there is a conflict of interest in this case with regard to this accused wife killer.

Why has a previous post asking these pertinent questions been removed without a response?

We would appreciate some transparency with regard to this matter and look forward to your personal response. Please note that when a query was made with Mr Campbell Newman’s office, the employee responded advising that you are the person to contact directly.

There are many people greatly concerned, who would appreciate being kept appraised of this situation, concerned with the fairness and with the well being of three very little girls.

        1. Sigh….

Yes, it’s upsetting but hardly surprising given the response I got from the Premier’s office when the issue was raised by me quite some weeks ago now.

At least, they – at the time – allowed it to remain online for public consumption.

But the instantaneous removal of posts from Jarrod Bleijie’s page does lend itself to rather concerning thoughts for all simple folk who wonder about transparency in this matter (God, now I am talking like Kevin Rudd).

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – maintain your rage and put passionate questions for follow-up to the likes of Alison Sandy at The Courier, Steve Austin on 612 ABC Radio, Madonna King at Qld Newspapers.

Brisbane Times may be another bet – they were quite courageous in their coverage of the BC debacle over quite some time.

These are the people that are well placed to put the hard questions to our elected representatives in a public forum for all to see and/or hear through their various media outlets.

If memory serves me, I think I also suggested that Hedley Thomas (an investigative journo at The Australian) be approached. He has Queensland ties (for all I know he may well still live here) and is a dogged campaigner when he gets the bit between his teeth.

Way too many cliches from me – I was not successful in my attempts to have legitimate questions answered, by key players, nor to interest the media in delving further.

So I’ve “done my dash” (sorry to speak in hackneyed terms yet again) weeks ago.

But I would like to think that “fresh” pressure from others might lead to a little intrigue and follow up from those in the Press.

Whoever suggested ‘bombardment’ is right on the money (oh dear Lord, there I go again!).

If the media don;t come to the party (oh boy…I desperately need a new repertoire), nervous State and Federal pollies will be obliged to respond one way or another to your questions – particularly in the current political climate.

Now I am too scared to write another sentence lest it be bedevilled with lazy usage of common idioms.

My friends, gird your loins, fight the good fight, never give up, the squeaky wheel gets the oil………….OOPS!!!!

    1. Hello Ozmo

I need to declare my hand.

Margaret de Wit is known to me through a past relationship many moons ago, when we worked together for a non-profit organisation

Her integrity, compassion and honesty in that role was beyond reproach, so when she left for the realms of politics, her co-workers were incredulous.

I had almost no contact with her for over a decade, and yet she showed up at my husband’s funeral to honour his memory.

I have no doubt about her personal moral compass in guiding her in the way she carries out her role as a councillor, a professional, and a woman.

I am all for “maintaining the rage” – or at the very least campaigning for answers to legitimate questions surrounding the circumstances of the Legal Aid imbroglio.

But I sincerely feel that our determination to see this through needs to be directed with vigour towards those whose portfolios actually cover the situation.- rather than the person who happens to inhabit the Council Ward in which the tragedy occurred.

So I’ve bared my soul on that question.

But I would once again urge all those with “fire in their bellies” to beleaguer the opinion makers in the media – while not letting up on the Attorney-General, nor the Premier.

I had my determined try, to no avail, so I can’t have a second bite.

But you can. Please go for it!

Someone even suggested the likes of tabloid TV – A Current Affair or Today Tonight – there would be nothing lost in trying.

A very disturbing case, the father got off on a good behaviour bond where the maximum penalty was 20 years.

    1. Yeah, I wonder if the father has friends in high places. Despicable that this went on sometimes in the marital bed with the mother there. These are not parents, you’re right Bill, they are monsters. I would be amazed if the daughter WASN’T depressed. Sadly true QCL, she does have a life sentence, you would never trust anyone after years of abuse like this, with no-one to protect you in your own home.
